Passage, the latest CD from American singer / songwriter Janet Martin offers very good songwriting and material, reminiscent of her Americana colleagues Lucinda Williams and Janis Ian, but also to the likes of Suzanne Vega. With the number of competitors in the field of female singer-songwriters not being exactly small, one should take heed of Janet Martin. Fans and friends of the great Suzanne Vega will come to love the music of Janet Martin; especially the second song "Medicine" which could at any time by either Vega or Martin; vocally the two sound amazingly similar. Passage is in a musical area of its own; the game plan Janet puts forth is excellent and the arrangements exude a pleasant charm.
 
Passage is not the last we will hear from Janet Martin; and this CD is certainly not her last word.
