Janet Martin
A
native of Richmond Virginia, Janet now divides her time between
New York City and Richmond when not touring Europe or the United
States. When not on the road Janet can usually be found writing
and in the recording studio. Her latest CD, Passage,
will be released in the early fall of 2009. Her sixth CD Step
inside the Dream was released early in 2008 to critical
acclaim both in America and on the European continent.
Janet honed her guitar skills at an early age with a wide range
of influences from acoustic flat-picking to electric guitar styles
including bottleneck slide to name a few.
A whole new world opened up when she began listening to Led
Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page’s use of open tunings. Janet’s acoustic
sound today is due in large part to her love of open tunings.
The flat picking prowess she possesses, along with her love
of rock 'n roll, sets her apart from most acoustic players; the
amalgam of the two styles is unique. Janet sounds like no other
player, male or female.
Her love of the blues led her to Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters.
Today Janet is a fiery showman on stage as she sets it ablaze
with her black Telecaster stinging out red hot blues licks from
her shiny metal slide.
Her love of the radio and classic rock led her to a songwriting
style that is unique to her. She is a multi-published writer
with over 30 original songs copyrighted and administered through
BMI.
As good a guitar player as she is, she’s an equally strong vocalist.
Be it a soulful ballad or a screaming blues rocker, Janet delivers
dead on the money. Put all these components together along with
a tremendous command of the stage and just the right amount of
sex appeal and you have the perfect package…Janet Martin!
